Wi-FAR is Going to Bring the World Together

Microsoft, Facebook, and Google are operating concurrently to conjure a technology that will end all the 5G myths in the market – Wi-FAR. As the name suggests, Wi-FAR (Wireless for FAR – Larger Areas) is going to aid in reducing the problem of web connection in distant and isolated parts of the world. So what are the advantages between Wi-Far and Wi-Fi 2,4 5GHz

With the talk of the new technology in town - 802.22 Wi-FAR, connecting to the internet without the help of mobile operators will become that much easier. The technology that was approved by the IEEE way before in 2011 has been trademarked Wi-FAR by the non-profit WhiteSpace Alliance (WSA).

Wireless technology

This technology will use whitespace, all the unused TV bands of range, to send cordless signs across the vast landscape (covering a distance of six to 18 miles in remote and isolated areas). The WhiteSpace Alliance states that every TV Channel will send a speed of 22 MBps or more that can be shared among 512 devices. Statistically speaking, this could mean that every device would get close to 1.5 MBps of dedicated download speed.

Even though this speed is minuscule as compared to the likes of Google’s latest technology called Google Wire (which has already been introduced in some U.S cities), the speed of Wi-FAR can easily compete with 3G services. Given the added advantage of range and connecting isolated parts of the world, Wi-FAR wins the case without any serious competition in this sector. It should be noted that even though the Wi-FAR can easily match the speed of 3G services, it is still far from coming anywhere close to 4G LTE Networks.

The Wi-FAR will come as a boon for poor and scanty regions, making it difficult for businesses and other organizations to thrive without any means of connectivity to the outer world. Wi-FAR could be a benefit for all these organizations and may also be used to form a link between base stations in a tightly woven network.

Present-day, a demographic of 28 Million still does not have a connection to the Internet in the United States,  and worldwide about 5 Billion people are missing out on the Internet verse. Wi-Far is going to be a renaissance in the world of Internet Connectivity.

Even though the WSA has given it a legal trademark, this technology will take time before it can fill the gap in connectivity of the entire world. Mobile operators will have a tough time competing against a city-wide cordless methodology.

Changes in Wi-Fi methodology

With such imbalanced changes in Wi-Fi technology, soon, there won’t be any such thing as an inaccessible part of the world. Though this technology will come as a boon to the people living in rural and remote areas, major MNCs and Mobile Operators will suffer a blow if this technology is released in the cities as well.

With such drastic advancement in Wireless technology, it is crucial to prevent Wi-Fi signals from invading barred zones or areas prone to zero communication from the outside world. It is best to use Wi-Fi Jammers in such places, like prisons, high-security offices, etc., to monitor Wi-Fi signal transmission.
