History Of The Android OS

Android is a mobile operation system for tablets, smartphones as well as for multimedia players, book readers and other gadgets. It is based on a Linux core. From the very beginning that OS was developed by Android Inc. and then Google bought it. After that Google Inc. created the Open Handset Alliance company, which is working on on of the most popular portable OS now.

That operational system gives us a possibility to run Java-based applications, which are communicating with the hardware through Google's libraries. Also their Native Development Kit enables developers to make apps on C and Objective-C. That OS is really popular nowadays. 75% of the smartphones sold at 2012 were based on Android OS. That's the most widely spread mobile OS, but also Android is considered to be the most vulnerable OS.

So the whole thing started in July 2005, when Google Inc has purchased Android Inc. In November 2007 Open Alliance Handset was created and open-source mobile OS was announced. And in 10 days that company provided a first developer's version of Android “Early Look” SDK.

At the end of September 2008 was the year of Android's first release. During the 2009 four updates were released. In February, they have presented 1.1 version of mobile OS and in April-September there were two updates to versions 1.5 Cupcake and 1.6 Donut. Since 1.5 versions, there were a couple of distinctive updates such as video recording and playback, virtual keyboard, new Internet browser and many others. 1.6 version was the first version of Androids with CDMA networks support. In October 2009 Android 2.0 was released and it supported HTML 5 web browser and multiple Google accounts. Also that update brought the so-called live wallpapers and updated lock-screen.

At the middle of 2010 Google announced Android 2.2, and at the end of the same year – 2.3. That update enabled us to use smartphones as MiFi hotspots, but that added some vulnerabilities too. The 2.3 update gave us a total control over “Copy-Paste” function, enhanced power management and multiple cameras support.

The third revision of that mobile OS was officially released at the end of November 2011 and it was called “Honeycomb”. That version f the OS was developed especially for tablets, The 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich”, which was released in October 2011, was the first universal mobile operational system, that works on tablets and smartphones. The latest version of Android OS is called “Jelly Bean” and it has already has an update from 4.1 to 4.2. That update has enabled Android smartphones to use a 4G LTE and Wi-Max networks, so to block an Android smartphone, on will be forced to use a 4G jamming device.

That open-source mobile OS is totally free to use and the source code of the platform was published in October 2005.The whole release consisted of Android OS, critical applications and a bundle of Java applications. The package's size was 2,1 Gb. Open source – is the largest security hole in the Android OS. It is probably the main reason of so many viruses at Google Play. Most of those viruses will probably try to steal you money, but some of them are really dangerous. Those malicious apps will try to steal your credit or debt card data, or personal information.

We think that Android devices are the most widely spread because they are affordable. Their low price in comparison with other mobile OS's is the main reason why people still use them, despite all Android bugs.
